New US Air Travel Restrictions Due to the Ebola Virus



With immediate effect ticket sales to passengers with origin in the affected countries (Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia) to the US and beyond are only accepted via entry ports JFK, ORD, IAD. Tickets to all other EK’s US destinations and to points beyond (via EK gateways BOS, IAH, DFW, SFO, LAX, SEA) cannot be sold to the affected passengers.

Consequent to the above rule,


1) All travel agencies and ticket offices in the affected countries (Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia) are to be informed that ticket sale to pax with origin in the affected countries to the US and beyond are only accepted via entry ports JFK, ORD, IAD. Tickets to all other EK’s US destinations or to points beyond via these points (i.e. BOS, IAH, DFW, SFO, LAX and SEA) cannot be sold to the affected pax as per the new US travel restrictions.
2) All EK stations have to assure that pax with origin in the affected countries (Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia) with destination US and beyond are only accepted via US entry ports JFK, ORD, IAD. Travel to/via BOS, IAH, DFW, SFO, LAX, SEA on EK’s direct services is prohibited.
3) Current passport checks in DXB need to include a check prior to the boarding of US flights. Security staff needs to be asking where the Pax is originating from. Pax from the affected countries (Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia) are only accepted via US entry ports JFK, ORD, IAD. Travel to/via BOS, IAH, DFW, SFO, LAX, SEA on EK’s direct services is prohibited.

REBOOKING/CANCELLATION PROCEDURES FOR EK PASSENGERS TICKETED TO TRAVEL FROM SIERRA LEONE, GUINEA AND LIBERIA TO THE UNITED STATES OR POINTS BEYOND VIA EK GATEWAYS BOS/IAH/DFW/SFO/LAX/SEA

The following options are available to EK commercial passengers and Skywards members who have purchased tickets to travel to BOS/IAH/DFW/SFO/LAX/SEA or to points beyond via these gateways on/before October 22nd, 2014 and who now have to alter their travel plans.

Commercial tickets:


1) Rebooking and re-issue charges shall be waived.
2) All passengers must be involuntarily re-routed via EK gateways JFK/ORD/IAD only and onwards to their final destination. This will be at no additional cost to the passenger and if required, the validity of the ticket may be extended.
3) Re-routing/re-issuance of tickets shall be as follows:
Onward OAL sector from JFK, ORD, or IAD to the final destination in the US or beyond must be re-booked on preferred carriers AC/AM/B6/DL/AS/WS/VX as per standard industry procedures.
Re-booking on AC/AM/B6/DL/AS/WS/VX must be in the lowest class available within the same cabin. EK connecting inbound flights to/from DXB must be booked in the original class.
The new ticket should be marked, “INVOL REROUTE”.

Only one FOC change shall be permitted per ticket.

Skywards Reward tickets:


1) Skywards members who wish to refund their tickets may do so without any cancellation charges. Expired Miles will be reinstated to the members account.
2) Skywards reward tickets which are unutilized or partially utilised can be rebooked to the same EK destination in line with commercial ticket policy at no additional cost to the member. Service Fees and difference in Miles will be waived off.
3) Bookings which have been upgraded with Miles will be rebooked as per the upgraded class of travel. If rebooked in the lower class, Miles will be reinstated to the members account.
4) Only one FOC change shall be permitted on Saver reward tickets.

Passengers are requested to contact their respective tour operator or travel agent for reissue or cancellation.
